The Abbey Medieval Festival Tournament Weekend
The tournament weekend is a perfect opportunity for visitors to immerse themselves in the medieval era. The weekend is filled with a range of activities, including jousting, archery, and sword fighting. Visitors can also enjoy wandering through the medieval market, indulging in food and drinks, and listening to music and storytelling.
Jousting
One of the most popular events during the tournament weekend is jousting. Our knights engage in thrilling battles while riding on horseback, wearing full medieval armour. Visitors can witness the excitement of the jousting tournament from the grandstands, cheering for their favourite knight.
Archery
Another popular activity during the tournament weekend is archery. Visitors can watch a tournament with three challenges: the running boar which simulates a hunting scenario, a speed round with armoured knights charging toward the archers and a “King’s round”.
Medieval Market
In addition to the tournaments, visitors can explore the medieval market, which is filled with artisan crafts, jewellery, and medieval-inspired food and drink. The market is a perfect opportunity to find unique souvenirs and to indulge in some delicious treats.
Entertainment
The tournament weekend also features music and storytelling, providing visitors with an immersive experience into the medieval world. Our performers use traditional instruments and storytelling techniques to transport visitors back in time.
